In some cases Mix to Mobile is unable to find any of your streams. This page will guide you through the steps you can take to fix the problem.
Choose the same (Wi-Fi) network
Mix to Mobile relies on your local network to discover and transport audio between devices. For this reason, it’s essential that both your computer and mobile device are connected to the same local network. If the two devices are not on the same network, they won’t be able to find each other. To ensure successful discovery and audio streaming, please confirm that both devices are connected to the same local network.
macOS local network permissions
With the introduction of macOS Sequoia, Apple added more strict controls for accessing the local network. Please follow this guide to learn more about this:
Allow Local Network access on macOS Sequoia
iOS local network permissions
Mix to Mobile relies on multicast networking to enable device discovery. For this feature to function properly, the application requires Local Network permissions. To verify and adjust the permissions, please follow the steps outlined in the guide below:
Fix local network permissions on iOS
Windows firewall
Firewalls on Windows may block the plugin host (DAW), preventing Mix to Mobile to find the plugin. To allow your DAW to bypass the firewall, please refer to the step-by-step guide provided below:
Setting up Windows firewall rules for Mix to Mobile
Network filtering software (macOS)
Third-party network filters such as Little Snitch, LuLu, or Radio Silence can silently block the multicast traffic that Mix to Mobile relies on for discovery. This can happen even when the filter appears to be disabled or inactive.
Mix to Mobile uses a custom multicast-based discovery mechanism to find streams on your local network. Network filters that restrict multicast or Bonjour traffic can prevent this discovery from working. Because the traffic pattern is similar to mDNS, creating an allow rule for mDNSResponder (both incoming and outgoing) is often enough to resolve the issue — this has been confirmed to work with Little Snitch.
After adding the rule, restart Mix to Mobile. Stream discovery should begin working immediately.
If you are unsure whether a network filter is installed on your system, open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions and check for any network filter extensions.
Disable VPN
A large number of users utilize VPNs to access networks securely. However, when a VPN connection is active, it can cause interference with local network broadcasting, which may prevent Mix to Mobile from being detected. If you have attempted the steps above and continue to experience issues while using a VPN, consider disabling it and attempting to connect again.
Connect your iPhone directly to your Mac using a USB cable
If the app still doesn’t find any stream try connecting your phone directly to your Mac using a USB cable, as this often provides a more reliable connection. In some cases, enabling your mobile device’s hotspot is necessary. If streaming problems persist despite these steps, it’s likely that the network itself is not the cause of the issue.
Other things you can try
Enable IPv6
Mix to Mobile prioritises the use of IPv6 if it’s available, but will fallback to IPv4 if necessary. If you encounter issues with Mix to Mobile, consider enabling IPv6 on both the sender and the receiver. IPv6 offers several advantages, including auto-configuration and simplified addressing and routing. By enabling IPv6, you may improve the performance and reliability of Mix to Mobile.
Use DHCP instead of static IP addresses
Mix to Mobile uses multicast networking for discovery, which can sometimes be incompatible with static IP addresses. If you’re experiencing issues with Mix to Mobile while using static IP addresses, we recommend trying to use a DHCP server instead. This may resolve any issues and ensure that Mix to Mobile works properly.
Enable multicast networking in your network router
Mix to Mobile uses multicast networking to discover streams, but some network devices may block multicast traffic. If you’re having trouble discovering streams with Mix to Mobile have a look at our guide for configuring network devices: link.
